How to make French Apple Tart

This recipe uses only 4 ingredients – Puff Pastry, apples, sugar and butter.

Begin with thawing puff pastry sheet at room temperature but ensure not to completely defrost it. Run the knife along the edges of the puff pastry square but don’t cut it all the way through. This will create a crust around the apples that prevent the juices from running off the tart edges. Cut the apples evenly in wedges and toss them in melted butter and sugar. Usually apple tarts asks to remove apple skin. Its completely your choice, I prefer to keep the skin on.

Many recipes call out for brushing sweet fruit preserves/jam over tart. It gives glossy and shiny appearance to tart. However i didn’t do this. I just dusted with icing sugar. If you opt for brushing jam, warm it up slightly in microwave and brush it over using pastry brush.

What apples to use?

Usually Granny Smith apples are considered best for baking, they are sour and also firm. Use any apples which are crispy and firm. I used Modi apples that have rich dark red skin. They are sweet and juicy. And they have beautiful red skin so that’s why I decided to keep the skin on.
