This recipe is really simple to make using store-bought Puff Pastry and a fresh apple pie filling. Bake these bakery-style, flaky apple turnovers to enjoy for breakfast, brunch or even dessert!

The freshly baked apple turn overs are so irresistible. They are so easy to make with minimal prep required. While these apple turnovers are scrumptious on their own, they can also be served with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and you have the most delicious fall and winter dessert.

What Are Apple Turnovers ?

Apple turnovers are small individual apple pies. Originated in France, they popular in many countries. There are quite a few versions made from puff pastry or pie crust. They are sometimes sprinkled with sugar or drizzled with icing/glaze.

Ingredients for Apple Turnovers

Apple turnover is a very easy recipe made from simple basic pantry ingredients. You will need the following ingredients:

Puff Pastry – Store bought puff pastry sheets.

Apples – You can use any apple of your choice – granny smith, royal gala or pink lady.

Brown Sugar

Cinnamon – adds beautiful aroma and flavour.

Cornflour – makes the apples saucy.

Egg – to seal the turnovers and gives a nice golden colour.

How To Make Apple Turnovers

Peel the apples and cut them into small cubes. Put them in a saucepan along with brown sugar, cinnamon, cornflour and water. Mix them well over medium heat and once the sugar melts cover the pot for 5-7 minutes. The apples should be soft but avoid over cooking them as they will get mushy.

Allow the apples to cool down. Cut puff pastry sheet into quarters. Put some apple filling on the side and fold over the puff pastry. Seal the edges with a fork and brush them with egg.

Finish them off with dusting of icing sugar.

Storing & Reheating Apple Turnovers

The apple turn over are best when they are freshly baked. The leftovers can be stored in an air tight container. To make them crispy again heat them up in a moderate oven for 5 minutes or so. Avoid heating them in microwave as it will make them soft and soggy.

Ingredients
  

  • 4-5 Medium Apples
  • 2 Sheets Puff Pastry
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
  • ¼ tsp Cinnamon Powder
  • 2 tsp Cornflour
  • 4 tbsp Water
  • Icing Sugar for Dusting

Instructions
 

  • Thaw the puff pastry sheets at room temperature. Preheat oven at 200℃
  • Peel the apples and remove the core. Cut them into small cubes. Put them in a pot along with brown sugar, cinnamon, cornflour and water.
  • On a medium heat cook until the sugar starts to melt. Cover and cook on low heat for 5-7 minutes. The apples will be soft and tender.
  • Allow the apples to cool down completely.
  • Cut the puff pastry sheets into quarters ( four squares each). Spoon the apple mixture onto each quarter and folder over the puff pastry sheet.
  • Seal the edges with a fork and put 3 slits on the top of each turnover. Place them in a lined baking tray.
  • Brush them with lightly beaten egg and bake them for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow them to cool down and then lightly dust them with icing sugar.
