How To Make Apple Crumble

This recipe is quite healthyish as I use less sugar, letting the flavorful apples to add of the sweetness on their own. And also, the crumble is not too buttery.

Apple Filling

To make the filling peel and core apples, cut them into small cubes. Add caster sugar, flour, cinnamon and lemon juice. You can also add nutmeg if you are a fan of spices.

Best apples for Apple Crumble

I like to use Pink Lady apples because they are naturally sweet, and you don’t need too much sugar. You can also use red apples, royal gala or granny smith apples.

This recipe will also work for pears and even stone fruits like peaches. And strawberries crumble is also a great option. So basically, you can make crumble any time of the year using the seasonal fruit.

Crumble Topping

For crumble topping I use plain flour, oats, cinnamon, walnuts and butter.

Should you use melted butter or softened butter ? I have tried it both ways. I find that melted butter gives more crispy texture and softened butter makes the crumble more like crumb texture.

For this recipe I have used melted butter and combine it with all the ingredients.
