Funnel Cake

Crispy, fried funnel cakes are an absolute treat. Enjoy them on its own or with your favourite toppings. Funnel cake is a light batter fried until golden brown, and dusted with powdered sugar.  Serve them on its own or with your favourite toppings. Enjoy them as a dessert for even breakfast ! I first tried them at a coffee shop and for some reason i thought it must be something complicated. To my surprise I found out its easier than any of the other cakes 😁

How To Make Funnel Cake

Funnel cake is incredibly easy to make, just using pantry ingredients. All you need is flour, baking powder, egg, milk, icing sugar and oil for frying.

Mix all the ingredients and make a batter. It should neither be too runny or too thick. That’s why its important to measure up !

You can use actual funnel for making this but i find its much easier to use a piping bag. You can also use squeezy sauce bottle. For frying use any neutral tasting oil like canola or any other vegetable oil. Ensure the oil temperature is hot but not smoking hot. Pour the batter in hot oil, making circular motions and overlapping, making a web. You can either choose to make large sized funnel cakes or small ones, its completely your choice.

How To Serve Funnel Cake

The best thing about funnel cake is that you can choose anything to go along with them. My favourite is ice cream and strawberries .

Choose from any of the toppings below or create your own !

  • Fruit: Freshly sliced strawberries, bananas, raspberries, blueberries.
  • Ice Cream: A scoop ice cream, vanilla, chocolate or any of your favourite flavour. Whipped cream also goes very well.
  • Sauce: Drizzle with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, nutella.
  • Sugar : while icing sugar is traditionally dusted over the funnel cakes, you can also use cinnamon sugar.
