What Are Jalapeños?

Jalapenos are medium sized Mexican chilli peppers. They are midly spicy and texture is similar to capsicum or bell pepper. Jalapenos can be used fresh or pickled. They are used in variety of food/recipes.

They are easily available at grocery stores. They are also very easy to grow at home too. They can even be grown in a pot, all they need is warm and sunny conditions.

I used home grown peppers in this recipe. In summer they grow abundantly, it’s the best time to make use of them and make a batch of pickle.

How to Make Homemade Pickled Jalapenos?

To make pickles Jalapenos you need white vinegar, sugar, salt, water and jalapenos peppers.

  1. Prepare brine – combine water, vinegar, salt and sugar. Stir and bring to boil. Allow it to cold down.
  2. Prepare Jalepeno Peppers – Wash them and dry them. Slice them.
  3. Make the pickle – put peppers in the jar and pour the prepared brine. Seal the lid. Store them in the refrigerator.

Few Things to Remember…

  • Use clean and sterlised jars. You can buy new preserving jars or use old empty bottles. Wash them properly to ensure there is no lingering smell etc. Put boiling hot water and keep them for 10 minutes. Allow the bottles to dry before using them.
  • Use good quality Jalapeno peppers that are fresh and crunchy.
  • Make sure you use clean dry spoon to take pickled jalapenos. Moisture and water can make the pickled jalapenos become mouldy.

Ingredients
  

  • 15 Jalapeno Peppers
  • 1 cup White Vinegar
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Salt
  • 2 tbsp Sugar

Instructions
 

  • Wash and pat dry the jalapenos pepper. Slice them.
  • In a saucepan add vinegar, water, slat and sugar. Bring it to boil while stirring it.
  • Allow the brine to cool down slightly. Pour it in the jars. Once at room temperature refrigerate for up to 2 months.
