How to Make Chilli Garlic Prawns?

This is an effortless recipe that requires minimal ingredients, and it takes less than 15 minutes to come together. As with all stir fry recipes, keep ingredients ready as it all comes together very quickly.

  • Begin with searing prawns in the skillet. Cook 3 minutes on each side. Keep track of time as prawns can get overcooked very easily. Take them out and set aside.
  • In the same pan add more oil and fry ginger and garlic. Use fresh ginger garlic and finely chop it..
  • Add siracha sauce, soya sauce, oyster sauce and brown sugar. Simmer the sauce untill it thickens.
  • Add the prawns back and toss them to coat with sauce.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and garnish with finely chopped spring onions and red chilli.

How Spicy is this Recipe?

Chilli garlic prawns are not overly spicy. There is a slight kick to it due to chilli flakes and siracha sauce but brown sugar balances it really well.

For those who can’t handle spice at all – You can tailor make this recipe to suit your spice level.

You can reduce or omit chilli flakes. Swap Siracha sauce with tomato ketchup and little bit of vinegar.

How to Cook Prawns Perfectly?

One thing you might have heard time and time again is don’t overcook the prawns. It’s not pleasant to eat chewy rubbery prawns.

The key to make perfect prawns is to make sure the pan is at right temperature. Put prawns in the hot pan, allow them to sear on one side and then flip them over. No need to constantly stir them or flip them. It shouldn’t take more than 3 minutes to cook prawns on each side.

Another way to tell if the prawns have been cooked, is by the shape. Raw prawns are loose and form a C shape. When they get cooked they curl and become O shaped.

Can Frozen Prawns be used?

Frozen or Fresh Prawns both works great. If you are up for peeling the fresh prawns, go for it. I prefer frozen prawns as they are ready to use. If you are using frozen prawns, thaw them and pat dry them with a paper towel.
